The Olding/Kannaste Four is a formation founded in Paris, France by Swedish guitarist Hans Olding and Finnish saxophone player Jussi Kannaste during common studies at the Paris Superior Conservatory of Music (CNSMDP) in 2001. They had a common wish to create their own contemporary version of jazz with strong original compositions and a homogeneous group sound as a springboard to further musical excursions.
After years of different co-operations with great musicians like; Daniel Humair (FRA), Jean-Philippe Viret (FRA), Stefan Pasborg (DK), Karl Jannuska (CAN) etc. they found their group.
Franco-Israeli bass player Yoni Zelnik joined the group in 2002 and French drummer Philippe Soirat the year after. The group has, since then, toured in France, Finland and Sweden, playing in clubs and at festivals. Their debut album “Reinventing The Wheel” (El Dingo/Plugged) was released in 2007 and has received very good press in Sweden and Finland. More to come…
The group recently recieved support from ‘The Cultural Fund for Sweden and Finland’ for tours in Finland and Sweden.
